SOME EVENT OPTIONS

If you are looking for excitement, entertainment, something that you will never forget, then try karting. It provides plenty of buzz and won’t break the bank. Kiltorcan Raceway caters for groups of 10 or more people and offer race formats to suit most tastes.

In all cases, drivers are supplied with necessary protective equipment and attend a thorough race briefing on Karting protocol. This includes Safety, Race Regulations, Flag Signals, Kart Control, and Driving Tips.

This is followed by a practice session to familiarise drivers with the circuit and their Kart.

The Endurance Race has proven to be a very popular options with large groups. However, we have recently introduced the ‘Kiltorcan Style' Grand Prix which is run more on the lines of real Formula-1. So far it has been a huge success with everyone and is ideally suited to groups of ten or a dozen. See below for some details on how they run.

THE ENDURANCE RACE (a bit like the Le Mans 24 hour)
This is a team event that provides the opportunity for organisers to select competitors of varying levels of skill or experience so that each team has an equal chance of victory. The winning team are those producing the most consistent performance during the duration of the race. A few fast laps and a spin into the tyres is NOT the way to win.

Following practice, we issue race numbers, explain the pit stop procedures and suggest possible team tactics.

Under the guidance of the team captain, all team members drive the kart in turn. A minimum number of pit stops must be made during the event but, within reason, drivers may drive for as long, or as little, as they wish. Driver changes are carried out during pit stops. Kiltorcan Pit Marshals strictly scrutinise these stops to ensure fair play and safety.

When the race time has elapsed, the team in the kart that has covered the most laps is declared the winner. Should there be two teams tied, the team that has produced the fastest lap during the race is awarded first place.

THE KILTORCAN STYLE GRAND PRIX
Only to be found at our circuit, this event compresses a typical three day ‘Formula One’ weekend meeting into just a couple of hours. A Race Briefing is given to explain the running order of the event, race strategy and penalties. The event is then divided into three sections:-

Untimed Practice. This gives the opportunity for drivers to get familiar with the karts and the circuit. Timed Qualifying. The lap times achieved in this session decide the grid positions for the Grand Prix. Grand Prix. The duration of the race is approximately 20 minutes and the number of laps is calculated, on the day, with regard to average lap times and prevailing weather conditions. Drivers are set on the grid in order of qualifying times; the quickest is on Pole Position.

Next there is usually a session in which drivers tell tales about being ‘cut up’ or ‘pushed off the racing line’ by other competitors or 'misjudged' calls by Flag Marshals, plus a few others stories which may actually be true. Then its out to the podium where the Race winners, along with those in second and third positions, take their places for the presentation of some ‘bubbly’ and the opportunity to take a few photographs. Remember, if you want to immortalise this special moment, don't forget your camera. (We occasionally carry a small stock of 'disposable cameras' for sale.)

PLEASE TAKE NOTE:
All events are run with safety as a priority. Our detailed briefings and explanations are designed to ensure that all participants have a good understanding of race rules and flag signals. Drivers are also expected to attain a degree of vehicle control during the practice sessions (prior to competition). If it is deemed necessary by the Clerk of the Course, extended practice sessions may be given to ensure that all drivers are sufficiently competent. The races following may subsequently be reduced in length or duration.

Drivers are advised to wear suitable, soft, flat shoes. In times of wet weather, bringing a change of clothing is also a good idea.

WHAT DOES ALL OF THIS COST ?
